Source: Author - Wooden ply Decoupage

I came across this papercraft recently and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Decoupage is a simple and economical way to make any item lying at your home into a stunning piece, its a great way to recycle and repurpose. It is anybody's craft and you can use magazine paper, newspaper, tissue paper to create it if you don't have a decoupage paper.

I have resued and repurposed wine bottles, wooden plank, and an expired debit card!

So let's get started on how to decoupage :

1. Things I have used

I got an old wine bottle, some decoupage paper and I used mod podge to stick the paper on the bottle and chalk paints for a matte effect. If you don't have mod podge it is fine, you can mix fevicol with water(3:1) depending on the paper you are using.

2. Choose a Theme

I rummaged through my decoupage paper collection and went for floral ones for a summery look and feel.

3. Layers of Tissue

I then removed the various layers of tissue, there is 2 ply as well as 3 ply. We required only the printed design layer.

4. Position the Decoupage Paper

I placed the paper on the bottle to check how I want my design to come up. After my estimation, I used a brush dipped in water to cut the decoupage paper.

5. Apply base paint & Modpodge

I applied chalk paint as the base keeping in mind the colors of the paper and for matte effect (also I was confined with just 3 chalk paint colors at home !). After that, I applied a thin layer of mod podge and spread it evenly all over the bottle.

6. Stick the Decoupage Paper

Don't let the mod podge dry completely and place the paper on the bottle, don't press it too much as the paper is thin and might tear. You can cut the excess paper using the same water brush method as it gives smooth edges.

7. Add a layer of mod podge to seal

After placing the decoupage paper and covering the excess with chalk paint, apply a layer of mod podge again evenly on the entire bottle to seal it completely. I wrapped a macrame rope and decorated few faux flowers on the bottle.

8. Styling your products

Its time to finally style.

LOOK 5

This one is a personal favorite, a wooden ply was lying in the house and I decoupaged it, made it into a planter first, then changed my mind and placed these cute figurines in my parent's room. I used macrame rope to hang the ply.
